These photographs were taken by myself during COVID in New York City (March 2020–March 2021). The unique thing about these photographs is that the streets of Manhattan are completely empty. This is where I lived and worked during that time. I would step out of my apartment or my private practice and the streets would be vacant. Pictured are the vacant streets outside Grand Central Station. Pictured are the vacant streets outside my private practice on East 44th Street and 5th Avenue.
As you can see, the streets don’t have a single person on them. It was a really spooky time to be in the capital of the world, New York City. However, it was rewarding at the same time.
During that time, I was working as a psychiatrist in New York City within the hospital/clinic system. This was before the COVID vaccinations became available, even for healthcare workers. I was the medical director of addiction services for St. Joseph Hospital in Yonkers, New York (2016–2021). This was my first job after completing a psychiatry residency and two fellowships in addiction psychiatry.
